José Antonio Coderch

Architect born in Barcelona in 1913. In 1940 he graduated from Escola Superior d'Arquitectura of Barcelona and establishes his professional office in this city together with Manuel Valls. Founding member of Grup R. and component of Team X, he gets great prestige by one of his first projects, the Ugalde house and pavilion at the IX Triennale in Milan. In 1960 obtains the FAD Architecture Award for a housing in street Juan Sebastian Bach in Barcelona, ​​prize that will repeat in 1972 by the housing Raset-Freixa-Modolell (Banco Urquijo); and the Gold Medal of the National Exhibition of Fine Arts, on the unbuilt project of Torre Valentina (1959). He started its activity in 1965 as professor of projects at the Escola d'Arquitectura. He was elected academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi. He died on November 6, 1984 and was buried in Espolla.

As a designer, one of his most significant works was the DISA or Coderch lamp, which has been awarded repeatedly.
